KOREAN FOOD

We used Francis Lam’s recipe for his ginger scallion sauce, but everything else was made on the fly. The sauce was made to go with some noodles, but it’s not pictured. (Okay, it’s at the bottom, left hand corner of the first picture, but the dish doesn’t look that great. Taste, on the other hand, was ridiculous. A good kind of ridiculous).

Instead of studying for midterms, I spent the snowpocalypse playing around with Photoshop. Wish I had a picture for spring, but I wasn’t into taking pictures then (then again, it’s not like I take lots of pictures now).

SUMMER 2011: That was from the day Yun Sun, Rachel, and I made strawberry rhubarb and blueberry jam. Poor YSP and Rachel were sunburnt from picking the strawberries. We used Amy Pennington’s jam recipe from her book, Urban Pantry. By the way, it was just announced that she’ll be the host for the new show, “Check, Please!”, on KCTS. How exciting!

FALL 2011: My Papa makes for a lovely hand model. We went to Uwajimaya and shared a bag of roasted chestnuts. It was a sunny day aka perfect photo op (in the parking lot, natch). I’ve got lots of food buddies, but I gotta say, he’s one of my favorites.

WINTER 2012: Technically, the picture was taken in 2011, but whatever. I went to Vancouver B.C. with Veronica, Lauren, and YSP, which was a ton of fun. We had some good sushi for lunch and made sure to pick up a bag of ketchup chips and timbits for the ride home.

P.S. I know this isn’t a music blog, but I’ve been obsessed with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7 in A major, Op. 92. Everyone should give the second movement a listen.

P.P.S. I don’t know why the text is centered to the middle. I tried shifting everything to align to the left hand side, but it won’t. Damn you, Tumblr.

DAY 2

Earlier today, I pleaded with M not to include bacon in our pasta dinner. “Please don’t torture me by eating bacon in my presence today. It would crush my morals. I would do bad things for bacon right now.”

This statement is still halfheartedly true. What the hell am I trying to do here? Simply, eat more vegetables.

And surprisingly, I found plenty of recipes sans meat in my Ooh-that-looks-good-but-I-don’t-want-to-make-it-today file. So, thank you to Spinach and Cheddar Souffle and pesto pasta for the motivation to stick it out another day.

Avocado & Basil Pesto- Green never tasted so good.

Creamy. Salty.

Garlicky. With a hint of basil.

Makes me dash back to the kitchen for

a spoon to get all up in the bowl of remaining

sauce when the pasta’s gone.

BANH MI’S….

Are *bleeping* delicious.

Better AKA real post coming soon. We promise.

Life got busy real fast. That’s a terrible excuse, but it is what it is.

NO KNEAD BREAD

image

I splurged on a Le Creuset Dutch Oven over the summer, and I’ve been making lots of Mark Bittman’s No Knead Bread with it. It’s minimal effort but high reward. In fact, I’ve stopped buying bread from grocery stores, so it’s a money saver, too! (Granted, you’ve got to make an insane amount of bread before you make up the price of a Le Creuset…..)

I’m not much of a baker, but this bread has given me really great results (I tried making fortune cookies one time and they were…….not good. They turned out eggy and chewy. It took me a week to eat the entire batch of botched cookies. Bleh.)

If anyone wants any bread, let me know! I’d love an excuse to make some more!
